Two brothers, both students at Georgia Southern, were on their way back to campus following Thanksgiving break when they were involved in an accident with a wrong-way driver. Both boys lost their lives in what was described as a fiery crash.
The brothers were traveling on Saturday night into Sunday morning, believing that traffic would be easier to handle if they drove in the middle of the night. Both had a bit of homework to finish up and wanted to get together with friends before classes resumed.
The pair was traveling on I-16 in Laurens County when a wrong-way driver crashed into their car. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to burst into flames. Both brothers lost their lives as a result of the accident. The wrong-way driver, a 27-year-old, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. The man’s condition was not known at the time of the report.
Family friends describe the brother’s as close knit and said that their death left their families and friends both stunned and devastated. A GoFundMe page was established to assist the family with funeral expenses. A memorial service had been scheduled for December 2.
