An early-morning crash in Atlanta sent one woman to the hospital just two days before the Thanksgiving holiday. According to officials, the accident happened at approximately 6:30 a.m. after a driver and their passenger had left work for the day.
Reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle had fallen asleep behind the wheel. The driver ultimately lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. Emergency personnel with the Coweta County Fire Rescue arrived on scene and began working to extricate the passenger from the vehicle. It took approximately 15 minutes to get the passenger out of the car. That person suffered a broken leg as indicated by reports.
The passenger of the car was airlifted from Fire Station 6. The person was taken by air to Atlanta Medical Center with non-threatening but serious injuries. Neither of the people in the vehicle were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. The single-vehicle crash caused a lane of the roadway to be closed for about 20 minutes so that emergency vehicles could access the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the wreck but may be facing charges pending the completion of an investigation.
